PROJECT OVERVIEW

The objective of this Project was to conduct Building upgrade works and installation of a 3 stop lift into a 3 story circa 1964 building which had a minor upgrade occurring in 1998.

Scope of Work

Aboriginal Hostels Limited contribute to Indigenous Australians quality of life through delivery of accommodation and support services across a national network of hostels.

AHL’s national network of 45 Hostels provide accommodation to Indigenous people who need to be away from home to access life changing education, employment, health, medical and other services with more than 1800 beds.

Silas Roberts Hostel provide short term crisis as well as medium & long term and transitional accommodation services in Darwin.

Project Outcomes

  • Design of the project works and issue of the Building Permit.
  • To isolate and make safe work areas from Indigenous guests and families whilst the works were completed over a 6day workweek and over the COVID-19 access restriction period.
  • Achieve a ‘zero harm’ outcome through comprehensive and uncompromising management of risk, particularly those risks relating to Work Health and Safety for Indigenous peoples.
  • Timely completion of the project work.
  • Issue Permit to Occupy certificate.
  • Commendation from AHL leadership on successful completion of the works.

Value Added

  • IPSA provided a construction solution to enable Silas Roberts Hostel to remain in operation during the upgrade works with zero harm to guests, their families and AHL staff.
  • Provide emergency and medical access for guests needing emergency transfer to Emergency hospital services.
  • IPSA demonstrated to AHL design, build and construct works can be safety completed without incident or distress to guests and AHL staff.
  • The facility is more user friendly for families and guests with mobility issues.
